CHARACTER'S PERSONAL STYLE:

He's a very proper student when it comes to his in-school style. During the school day, he likes to be as class ready as he can, wearing the standard Hogwarts uniform to specifications. He irons his clothes early in the morning, before breakfast, and shines his shoes right before he goes to bed to make sure they look just right for the day ahead. When he's not in his Hufflepuff colors, he tends to not be as flashy as one might think. He's very fashionable, but not over the top. He likes to wear blue jeans and a casual shirt (something plain, preferably). Kendrick doesn't like to wear anything with funny graphics, because he doesn't really get the dry humor that most other kids his age would get.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY:

Kendrick is a very down-to-earth person. He believes that violence is not an answer to solving problems; words are much better used in war. When it comes to problem-solving, he likes to break down his problems and look at all aspects of the situation. He doesn't think that one solution is going to solve everything. Using all viewpoints, from people directly and indirectly involved in the situation, he is able to have a variety of ways of fixing the problem on hand. If something does not work, he's able to cross it off and tell you why it failed. Friends come easily to him because he's level-headed towards people. Kendrick doesn't judge someone by their cover. He will observe them and talk to them before making any sort of judgement.

On the other hand, he tends to get a little flustered when it comes to schoolwork. He is planning to go to St. Mungo's after graduation, yet he doesn't seem to do so well on his schoolwork. Kendrick passed (just barely) OWLs and got into the NEWT-level classes to become a Healer, but his grades need a little work. Tutoring seems to help. His handwriting is not the best in the world, and he is not an amazing speller... And it shows when he turns in an assignment that he has worked on himself. Professors have told him to redo it with the help of a student who knows what they're doing. While his self-esteem has decreased for that particular reason, others have seemed to pitch in and help him get to where he needs to go. He's very thankful for that.

Kendrick's best subjects, even with his schoolwork issues, are Herbology and Charms. They're two of the required classes to become a Healer. (Those are also his favorite classes.) As with most students, he doesn't appreciate History of Magic because it's not as hands-on as the other classes seem to be. He seems to be gravitated towards anything that's hands-on, and that's why his favorite memory from life is from his First Year, when he did a whole report on Mandrakes with visual demonstrations. The current Sixth Year's boggart is failure, and coming out of the closet is a Professor handing him an exam with a red markered T right over the whole front page. He like to think of the Professor wearing some sort of tutu, dancing around writing an O in the air in order to get the boggart to go away.

Outside of classes, he likes to eat. He's always down in the kitchens on the weekends, observing the house elves preparing the next meal for the students. He's an avid SPEW supporter, even wearing a button around the school on non-school days to show fellow students that they have rights as much as any witch or wizard in the world. Kendrick also doesn't tolerate people who bully him for being "mentally stupid". That's probably why his patronus is that of a sloth. He can be a little slow, but he still surprises everyone when things are finished.

CHARACTER HISTORY INTRO:

Kendrick Finch-Fletchley was born on a hot, early-summer day in 2042 to one of Justin Finch-Fletchley's two sons. He was the second grandchild born to the former Hufflepuff, only behind his sibling by a year on the calendar. His other sibling came about a year after he did, giving the couple three healthy (halfblood) children. And that's how it remained for Kalen and Noel. Noel was pretty sure that if she had gotten pregnant for a fourth time, she would walk out of the marriage. Kalen agreed to keep the number of children at three, and that was the end of it. Two boys and one girl later, the family of five moved to a tiny little town, close to the big city of London. Kalen's job required him to take Muggle transportation; both the underground and train at King's Cross Station proved to be a perfect cover for the fact that he was magical.

Home life was good for Kendrick and the entire Finch-Fletchley family, but it was a little hard to work around the fact that Kalen was a wizard and Noel was a Muggle. In order to combat the fact that magic was going to be used in the house by the head, Noel allowed the use of Muggle technology during free moments. Dinners weren't levitated from the oven to the table, or magically cut up. Instead, the television was playing BBC programming, and the radio wasn't controlled by WWN. While this didn't cause a rift in the family, a growing-up Kendrick learned that it was okay to embrace both lives that he could possibly live. Be a squib and get an actual job at 18, or attend Hogwarts as a wizard and get a not-so-ordinary job at 18. He received his letter at the age of 11, signaling the start of something new. Another Finch-Fletchley was going to Hogwarts.

At the sorting ceremony, Kendrick didn't have a Draco Malfoy moment and get his house announced before the hat was placed on his head. The hat did take a little bit of time, however, debating whether or not he should be sorted into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Ultimately, the Finch-Fletchley child was sorted into Hufflepuff, to the delight of the kids already sitting at the house table. He had thought that being in Gryffindor was a bad idea, when he looked back at it a few years later. There was only one house that really fit his personality, and being with Hufflepuff was it. He was welcomed with open arms, including those of his older sibling, who had been sorted into the same house a year earlier. It felt like Kendrick would really enjoy being around his fellow badgers, as long as he had a part of home with him.

Kendrick's early years at Hogwarts meant that he had to adapt to his new life. Quickly, his low-key attitude towards life was the secret to gaining friends. He found that he was able to befriend one of Albus Potter's sons (same year as the Finch-Fletchley was in, but in Gryffindor). He confessed to this new boy that the hat wanted him to go towards Gryffindor at one point, and anyone who was considered as a Gryffindor would be a friend of the Potter kid's. The two have been close friends ever since, even though his ambitions after graduation were somewhat different than what Kendrick's were to be once he got out. He also found close friends in Blake Ackerley's oldest daughter, who was sorted into Ravenclaw; and the only girl to Scorpius Malfoy, who was put into Slytherin (as most Malfoys were). The four of them stood by each other through thick and thin ever since Third Year.

His learning "handicap" didn't start until Fourth Year, when Professors noticed that in lecture classes, the boy was struggling with grades. In hands-on lessons, he would do really well. In History of Magic or any other lectures, the grades were pretty dreadful. His Professors decided it was a good idea to get some older students to tutor him, to see if maybe something could be changed so that his grades were good enough to pass OWLs at the end of Fifth Year. Kendrick was paired with Prefects, who could be pulled from their study halls, to come to the Hufflepuff's aid. They showed him a few new ways to take notes without having to subject himself to his awful handwriting, and to help him pass his classes so he could get to NEWT-level courses without having to repeat a whole year. He was passed over twice as a Prefect for his house becuase of the learning problem.

When he gets out of Hogwarts, he hopes to become a Healer at St. Mungo's. He doesn't know what his backup option will be, just in case the hospital doesn't accept his current failures.
